Mystery beads

Submitted by: Janet
Main Image

PLEASE HELP

Okay, this looks primitive. The "beads" are glass, but actually look handmade, like thumb-pressed. Someone said the claw-like things are probably seeds. It is very heavy. The longer strand is about 28" and the "beads" range around 1" in diameter. I have no idea where to list, how to identify it. Any ideas?

This is an apx. 5" tall by 4" wide black and white Cocker Spaniel figurine. He has an arched eye (guilty / pleading / "I love you") upward look on his face and a light blue collar with a yellow tag. He is sitting and leaning a bit to his right. The bottom is inscribed STAEHLE with a stylized W (or possibly AA or VV). From an internet search, he appears to be a Staehle's Butch figure, and looks quite like the National Dog Week poster from 1950. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Normandie Iridescent Bouquet & Lattice Glassware

Submitted by: Bonnie & Jonathan

PLEASE HELP

We have 26 pieces of Normandie Iridescent glassware that I found tucked away in a cupboard when I moved into my husband's home. It had not seen the light of day for many years and he had only a hunch that it had any value. I've researched the Depression-era glass and know that it was made from 1933 to 1939 by the Federal Glass Co. The iridescent was not as popular as the pink but it has a beautiful opalescence. Websites show wildly varied prices for the various pieces. We desire to sell it but have had no luck through more common sites. There are six 9" luncheon plates (these seem to be rare), two 6" sherbet/bread plates, two cup and saucer sets, four additional cups, five 5" berry bowls, four 6.5" cereal bowls, and one fruit bowl. The pieces have no apparent cracks or chips but they do have a coating of grime that came off of two pieces when I soaked them in vinegar. A popular website for completing partial tableware settings valued the pieces (in excellent condition) at $159.00. I cannot seem to get half that and intend to try and sell on your website.

Estimated Value submitted by AntiquesNavigator Staff

Hi Bonnie & Jonathan,

Depression glass was very inexpensive when it was sold in the late 1920's to the early 1940's. In fact, sometimes companies would give it away for free to spark interest in their business.

As you've found out, the antique and collectible market is very soft right now. And the prices that dealers could easily obtain for antiques and collectibles a few years ago are now unattainable. I would value your depression glass in the $50-75 dollar range. Here's a similar set that sold for $46 dollars:

Gold colored chain, chain looks like numerous strands of metal intwined to make it look like a mesh. It is circular. The pendent on the chain is go ld, silver, and a sort of other color that makes all together a swan. The pendent is hammered and is several medals together to make the design. the bottom of the pendent has small seed pearts hanging from it. I would say to me that it looks either victorian, or egyptian.

The heyday for Perfection stove company was from 1916 to the 1950's and your kerosene stove is more likely from the later part of the period. More history about Perfection stove company can be found here:

Here's a cool advertisement from 1908 showing a kerosene new perfection stove doing the cooking while the housewife reads a magazine:

These kerosene stoves were very common and according to the perfection stove co history page by 1922 there were over 3,000,000 Perfection stoves in American households! Your model 151 New Perfection kerosene cooking stove is worth $50-100 dollars.

PLEASE HELP

Clock works great. Case in near perfect condition, no defects, colors still vibrant, original finish. Has original everything-except it is missing hands. Don't know where to get replacements. Tried to some and also need the hand nut and taper pin., but don't know sizes or where to find. What do you think? Thanks!!!

Hi Sonja,

If we're talking about the same clock, poppo Tezuka Wood owl clocks can sell for up to $200 dollars in excellent working condition.

Since your clock is missing parts, it might only be worth $20-50 dollars, so you might want to take it a clock shop to get an estimate on repairing it.
